My vehicle remote starts, but then immediately shuts off. How do I solve this issue?

The most common reason for a vehicle to start, then immediately shut off is engine checking. Compustar systems monitor voltage or tachometer signals from your vehicle to know exactly when the vehicle has started. If there is something wrong with one of these signals, or they’ve changed; you may need to re-learn your vehicle’s tachometer signal to our unit. This is done very simply using the following steps:

  1. Start your vehicle’s engine (Use your Key or Push-to-Start button)
  2. Press and hold the foot brake down.
  3. While keeping your foot on the brake, press the remote start button on your remote control for 3 seconds like you are remote starting the vehicle. Your parking lights will flash once. (If they flash more than once, you may have to visit the dealer/installer)
  4. Turn the vehicle OFF.
  5. Retry starting your car with your remote control.

If re-learning the tachometer does not work, please Contact Us for further assistance.

Pit Stop Mode

Pit Stop Mode is a mode built into many Compustar systems that allows the vehicle to continue to run without the key in the vehicle. This is often used for those who want to go into a convenience store for a short amount of time without turning the vehicle off. This mode does not work with manual transmission vehicles.

To enter Pit Stop mode, please do the following:

  • Put the transmission into Park
  • Remove your foot from the brake pedal
  • While the vehicle is still running, press and hold the remote start button on your remote (*Note: this will take about 3 seconds to happen)
  • You will know that the vehicle has entered Pit Stop mode if you see the parking lights flash
  • You can now remove the key *

When you return to the vehicle, you can use the same takeover procedure to enter the vehicle as you normally would.

*The vehicle will remain running for as long as the Run Timer has been set (The typical default time is 15 minutes).

HOLD Mode

When a Compustar LCD remote beeps and says ‘hold’ it means the remote is in a button lock or button hold mode. To exit please follow instructions below:

One button & Four button remotes:

  • Hold the lock button down for about 4 seconds to take the remote out of hold. Once the remote is out, it should be functional or able to program to a system.

If this does not solve the issue:

  • Remove the battery, wait one minute, and reinsert the battery.

For Remotes with Function key –

  • Press the ‘function’ or F key on the side of the remote down for 7-8 seconds.
  • The remote will beep at you and begin to function again.

NOTE – If you hold the “F” key longer than 8 seconds, it will turn the remote off. To turn back on, simply hold the function button down for 3 seconds. This should also exit the button hold mode.

Valet Mode

You will know if you have accessed the Valet Mode feature if you receive 3 parking light flashes followed by 10 parking light flashes upon the remote start command. With LCD remotes, you will get an error 10.

NOTE: If your LCD screen reads ‘Hold‘ also, please follow this link to exit the button hold first – Exit Hold Mode

To exit ‘Valet Mode’ –

4 BUTTON REMOTE ONLY:

  • Remove the key from ignition and attempt to start vehicle from Compustar remote controller.

1 BUTTON REMOTE ONLY:

  • Simply turn the key to the ‘ON/RUN’ position and press the foot brake down 10 times within 10 seconds.

  • Turn key to the ‘ON/RUN’
  • Tap the function or ‘F’ key on the side 3 times, then press the lock button.
  • You will receive two parking light flashes to inform you that this was successful.

2W902R-SP REMOTE:

  • Turn key to the ‘ON/RUN’
  • Press and release the function button and the trunk button simultaneously. Note: Holding the buttons for over .5 seconds will cause this to fail.

If you do not have a remote, then the following can be attempted:

  • Start the vehicle
  • Press and release the foot brake pedal 10 times within 10 seconds.
